Jimmy Buffett on NBC Today Show (July 2001)
Every now and then you have to do something just for
yourself. Being a
Parrothead, having free train tickets and being a little crazy - I
decided to go see Jimmy play
a free concert in Rockefellar Center on NBC's Today Show. I left DC at
10PM and got into NYC at
2AM. From the station I went over to the Plaza and there were already
100-200 people there ! Met alot of nice people that I will never see
again and ran into a couple that I knew. The
band came out around 5AM for the first soundcheck and Jimmy joined them
for the second soundcheck at
6AM (pretty much did the whole show, just without the cameras and
makeup). The Today Show anchors
came out every now and then starting at 7AM to do parts of the show.
Jimmy came out around 8AM and played for 30 minutes. Since I was in NYC
and had the whole day ahead of me, I resisted the urge to head home and
sleep and went to Coney Island to ride the Cyclone and have a Nathan's
hot dog. Then I started the 4hr trip home to pass out.
